While the PnP nature of the card allows the IDE interface to be configured on a wide variety of ports (allowing even more than four IDE interfaces in a single system), one caveat applies.  When the card is configured as a secondary IDE controller, the second group of I/O addresses is truncated.  Normally the second IDE controller also uses ports 376-377, however this can conflict with the floppy controller, so the PnP settings only reserve port 376.  In this case, some CD-ROM device drivers (such as [[VIDE-CDD.SYS]]) will not recognise the interface.  Because of this, setting the card to the secondary IDE interface is not recommended.  It works well as the third or fourth IDE interface as the ports are not truncated with these settings.

The Sound Blaster 32 PnP is an update to the Sound Blaster 16 with the WavEffects (EMU8000) chip from the AWE32. It is one of the few Creative Labs cards that can take standard 30-pin SIMMs to increase the memory available for MIDI instrument samples.

It is very similar to the Creative Sound Blaster AWE32 PnP (IDE), but with a CT1749 instead of the CT8903 (AWE32) chip. It also has a SPDIF output connector, which the AWE32 does not. The SB32 series also has no onboard memory, while the AWE32 has 512 kB.
