This template is used to populate the Device Infobox with information about a floppy drive. See Teac FD-55GFR for example use. As this template sits inside an infobox, it can be combined with other templates in the case of multi-function devices.
Valid parameters and examples specific to this infobox are:
Parameter | Meaning |
---|---|
Media type = Value | Page for the type of disk or removable media. Valid values are:
|
Sides = Value | This is the number of sides the disk has. |
Tracks = Value | This is the maximum number of tracks the head mechanism can access. Nominally drives are 40 or 80 tracks, however some drives can read beyond this, often up to 83 or in some rare cases 85 tracks. This can allow the drive to read copy protection or disk duplication information stored in these "hidden" tracks. This value should be set to 40 or 80 as appropriate, unless the drive has been tested (e.g. with a Kryoflux) and is known to read beyond the standard limit, in which case this higher limit should be recorded here. |
Density = Value | Text value for the maximum density the drive can access. One of:
|
Default values are shown if the parameter is omitted, so do not use any parameters unless the value is known (most of the defaults say "unknown").
